5 Steps to Create a Powerful Vision Board

The other day I posted a “mini vision board” on my Instagram feed showing a simple collage of images summarizing my intentions for the new year. I got so many questions about it that I decided to write a post and share how you can make an empowering Vision Board yourself.

First off, what is a Vision Board?

Vision Board is a collage of images and/or words that represent what you want for yourself. It’s basically organizing your dreams in a visual and easy way so they can manifest in your life. But wait, it’s not that all you have to do is cut and glue some photos in a poster and you’ll magically get everything in there!

So, How Does It Work?

The Law of Attraction says that you attract into your life whatever you set an intention and focus your attention on, whether positive or negative. And although it seems an easy thing to do, not everybody can get clear about what they really want, or set a positive intention to achieve it. That’s how the Vision Board becomes an important tool to have the attention focused on the right intentions.

Remember: Energy Flows Where Attention Goes!

Step 1: Define your Goals and Intentions

In order to visualize your goals, first you need to know what they are, right?  To listen to yourself, spend some time meditating about it. I prefer to do it in silence that I can hear what my mind and heart has to say. While doing it, think about how you want your ideal life to look like, and what you need to accomplish it.

Scan through your career goals, family life, vacation plans, wellness goals, and love life. Be selfish, focus on what you want and need, even if it’s for a collective accomplishment. Your full attention and focus only go to something you truly want.

Step 2: Find images that represent your goals and inspire you

This may take at least a couple of hours. Find a place that you can be relaxed and won’t be interrupted while looking for images that represent your goals and speak to your heart in some meaningful way. I recommend some music and wine in this phase – make it fun!

Use old magazines to look for images that represent what you want or print pictures from the internet. Another option is to make a digital vision board using Pinterest or Instagram. All you have to do is either create a private Pinterest board, or an Instagram account to use as a vision board. Whatever you decide, make sure to organize the images in a way that suits you.

I’m an old-school person, so, I prefer to use magazines and print some images if necessary. The important thing here is to find pictures that when you look at it you think “Yes, that’s what I want for my life”.

Step 3: Add motivational words that represent how you want to feel

Make a list of words that describe how you want to feel, you can either search in magazines or write them down.

Some ideas of words you can use are – “powerful, fearless, loved, empathy, healthy, abundant, compassionate, loving, financially free”.

Step 4: Make a collage out of your photos

If you chose to make a physical Vision Board, get yourself a cork board or a poster paper to glue, tack or tape your pictures in an arrangement that pleases you.

I like to virtually divide the board in themes and organize the photos in these virtual areas. For example, there is a space for family goals, another for career intentions, and so on.

Step 5: Keep the Visual Board somewhere it can be seen

The ideal is to have the visual board displayed somewhere you can constantly see, but if for any reason you can’t do it, look for a place you have easy access – like your closet or behind your office door.

Not only is a vision board a wonderful reminder of what you truly want in life, but it’s also a powerful motivator to enact on achieving your goals.
